Tesla Launches First Charging Station in India at BKC, Mumbai; Expands Retail Presence
Tesla has officially entered India’s EV infrastructure market with the launch of its first charging station at the Tesla Experience Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. The station features four V4 Superchargers (DC) with a peak charging speed of 250 kW, priced at ₹24/kWh, and four destination (AC) chargers offering 11 kW at ₹14/kWh. This move follows the opening of Tesla’s first Indian showroom in Mumbai on July 15.
Tesla plans to expand swiftly, with its next showroom and experience centre set to open in Delhi by the end of July. Both Mumbai and Delhi will eventually host four charging locations each, equipped with 16 superchargers and 16 destination chargers across key areas including Lower Parel, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Noida, Saket, Aerocity, and Golf Course Road.
In a further incentive, Tesla will provide a free home charger to every car buyer in India. The company has also introduced the Model Y in the Indian market at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), a price impacted by India’s over 100% import duty on foreign vehicles. The rollout of charging infrastructure signals Tesla’s strategic push to establish a strong local presence, supporting EV adoption amid India’s growing electric mobility drive.
