India’s EV Charging Network Quadruples to 24,000 Stations
India’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure has grown rapidly, reaching 24,000 public stations in 2025—a fourfold jump since 2023, according to the India Charging Report 2025 by TATA.ev. Today, more than 65% of Indian pin codes have at least one public charger, marking strong nationwide coverage.

The report highlights a major shift in consumer behavior. EVs are now driven an average of 1,600 km per month—40% more than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. EVs also cover 95% of India’s motorable roads, with users frequently completing long-distance trips, including routes like Delhi-Manali and Mumbai-Goa.

Highway charging has seen significant progress, with 91% of national highways now offering a charger within 50 km. States such as Karnataka, Delhi, and Kerala have already achieved 100% coverage.

Through its Open Collaboration initiative, TATA.ev deployed 18,000 new stations in just 15 months, using data-driven tools like hexbin spatial mapping to bridge network gaps. It also launched “.ev verified” chargers and user-friendly features like DrivePay, RFID access, and 24/7 helplines, increasing reliability and usage by 37%.

Looking ahead, TATA.ev is rolling out ultra-fast 120 kW Mega Chargers, with 500 expected by 2027. These steps strengthen India’s transition toward a reliable, consumer-friendly EV ecosystem.
